Our trip in August 96 touched on most areas of Glacier National Park. We started out by camping at Two Medicine for a few days while we secured a permit to do a three night backpacking trip. During this time we did a nice day hike to Cobalt Lake to get in shape.   Bob & Kelly in the upper Two Medicine Valley - Glacier 96
Rafting down the Middle Fork of the Flathead River - Glacier -96 After our backpacking trip we decided to cool down by River Rafting down the Middle Fork of the Flathead river. This is the same river that the Meryl Streep movie The River was shot. It was quite a ride.
For the first time in the 23 years that I have been going to Glacier we explored the North Fork Country. This area of the Park is the most primitive having only dirt roads and limited facilities. The North Fork of the Flathead River forms the western boundary of the park and the North Fork fire burn area is still obvious. We camped and hike at Kintla lake with a stop at Bowman Lake.
Looking west from the Highline trail - Glacier 96 No trip to Glacier would be complete without a stop a Logan Pass. On this trip we not only visited the Hidden Lake overlook but also did a day hike along the Highline trail past Haystack Butte. The picts to the right and left were from the Highline trail. Bighorn Sheep are almost always sighted here. I tried a little off trail climbing to get to the top of the Continental Divide but turned around before getting to the top - Not as young as I used to be. Coming back from Grinnell lake - Glacier 96 At Many Glacier we decided to let the horse do the work and to a ride to Grinnell Lake. It was a first ride for Jeff.   Jeff - High in the saddle
